lions and tigers and bears, oh my....

Through this class we have examined new and trendy ways of advertising, but when it comes down to it I don like these new mediums.

I recognize that everyone has facebook, and that a giant muffin crushing a car get people attention, but I think to be successful l in advertising you have to think bigger than the muffin. You have to be able to take a quarter page in section L of the Ottawa Citizen and using black and white get people to notice.

there is no thought in these new trends, where is the skill, buying a word on Google, takes seconds. Developing a brand personality, researching your demographics, then preparing an image that will convey your message that requires skill.

Now maybe i'm wrong and maybe ill flop like an Edsel... but I think there is a lot to be said for a little hard work.

wish me luck!

my soft spot for mariott

Marriott has developed a very distinct image for themselves, it does not matter what hotel, or which chain of Mariott, when you walk through the doors you know where you are...

I have a bit of a soft spot for Mariott myself... I use to have a job that had me traveling a lot and my work buddies and I would meet up at the Courtyard Mariott every weekend do discuss the plan for the upcoming week. I was such a regular that it became like a second home to me, and just seeing the sign brings back great memories...

When I travel i always stay at a Mariott, I just think that it would never be as fun, if i stayed somewhere else.

TV vs. Broadband

To be honest I d not have a preference between Broadband and television, sometimes I like tv, I can sit down and watch an episode of the Cosby Show, or the Nanny... as they are on all the time... sometimes I like to log on and catch up on my South Park.

I really treat them as one and the same...

I think the problem with my impartiality comes from the fact that I really don't have time to watch anything...

Social Networking??????????????????????????

I don't even know what to write about social networking... the concept baffles me...

Like most sheep I myself have a facebook, but in the year that I have had it I have still to discover a use for it.

These sites are quickly becoming the most popular sites, but what is the point. Why do I need to know the minute to minute happenings of people I cant be bothered to pick up the phone and call? If I cared about these people wouldn't I call them.

And why anyone would choose to get their news form these sites instead of from the glorious Peter Mansbridge....

I just don't get it... maybe I am just to jaded...

Facebook...

I am really not sure how facebook became so popular, i think last year at this only a handful of people had accounts, and now everyone and their dog are logging on.

That being said, facebook is a brilliant means on which to advertise. All the demographics and psychographics are already there. I think though that facebook is not being used to its full potential. I think facebook could lend very well to spam, pop ups, and not to mention applications which advertise specific products.

Guerilla Advertising

An interesting development in the world of advertising is the guerilla tactic. Where once advertisements were confided to where one would expect them, in a newspaper, or on a bill board,we now find our selves constantly bombarded. Even a man hole becomes fare game in our evolving culture.

Through I see the commercial benefit of being able to attract the attention of the consumer, and I appreciate the art that goes into creating these advertisements; I really must say enough is enough. To be perfectly honest I appreciate when some one takes a usual forum for advertising and against the odds still manages to attract my attention by developing a excellent ad.

After all, as advertisers is that not what we should be doing - developing excellent ads? Anyone can attract attention by dropping a over sized tennis ball onto a wrecked car, but how easy is it to sell a new brand of tooth paste, when given a half page ad in the middle of a 200 page magazine.

As some on who enjoys advertising, even I am getting sick of these constant assault on aesthetic decency and good taste. Let us return to the ways of yesteryear, and leave the ads where they belong.

Blog 1

A blog is short for web log, and anyone can use a blog to post pictures, information, opinions, et cetera.

I dislike blogs.

I feel that hey have no real use, the content of blogs are simply peoples opinions and are not necessarily routed in fact. Any time that I am looking for information I most certainly do not use a blog to gather that information.
